About

WELCOME TO THE UNSEEN VIEW
Hello,
I'm Nigel Grist, a biologist, former co-owner of an environmental consultancy and sometime scientific database programmer. Although a scientist by training there has always been a creative side to my activities.
I’m now a Devon based printmaker, photographer and Dartmoor walking guide. Words, wildlife and landscape are important influences for me.
My photography ranges in scale from detailed macro images, especially insects, to wider views of Dartmoor and the coast. Sometimes simple images, sometimes more abstract. I work in both monochrome and colour depending upon the image and print most of my own work.
Printmaking is an extremely diverse art-form with a wide range of distinct techniques (and much blurring between them too!). I enjoy the precision and graphic look of lino-cutting but also experiment with collagraphs and other techniques. In some instances an image will start as a photograph and evolve into a print.
Guiding and walking on Dartmoor takes me to all parts of this very special place. The landscape and history are reflected in many of my prints and photographs. Examples of these, and further details on other pursuits, are available elsewhere on this site.
I hope you enjoy having a look around. If you have a particular interest in any aspect or would like to purchase an item then please follow the 'sales' link or get in touch, I should be very pleased to hear from you.
